South Dakota Farmers Union Pushing For RFS And COOL Defense

South Dakota Farmers Union has a delegation of over 30 in the nation’s capital this week lobbying lawmakers on the hill. President Doug Sombke says besides the farm bill, one of their major concerns is making sure lawmakers keep the Renewable Fuel Standard intact.

Sombke says South Dakota Farmers Union members are also asking lawmakers to defend Country of Origin Labeling against attacks from those who want to get rid of it. He expects a long drawn out fight over it however.

The U.S. Country of Origin Labeling law is being challenged in the courts with a decision expected as soon as today on a preliminary injunction request by opponents of the measure. If that’s granted it will put the law on hold while the litigation goes through the system.
