South Dakota Farmers Union President Pleased House Conferees Named

 

House leaders have named their conferees to work on the farm bill. The Midwest is well represented with Representative Kristi Noem of South Dakota, Steve King of Iowa and Collin Peterson and Tim Walz of Minnesota all named to the panel. South Dakota Farmers Union President Doug Sombke says having a strong farm state representation on the committee bodes well for getting a five year bill passed.

Sombke says lawmakers should be able to get the farm bill completed by the end of the year although he expects a battle over the nutrition title.

He says the farm bill is needed not only for certainty for farmers but also so disaster assistance can get out to livestock producers devastated by the October blizzard.
