South Dakota Farm Bureau Shares Governor’s Rail Concerns

South Dakota Governor Dennis Daugaard has filed a petition with the Surface Transportation Board raising questions about the acquisition by the Canadian Pacific Railway of the Dakota, Minnesota and Eastern Railroad.  South Dakota Farm Bureau Organizational Director Lowell Mesman says his group shares the Governor’s concerns about the line near Tracy, Minnesota and about being able to ship South Dakota commodities east.

Mesman says some of the other concerns regard rail upgrades and the ability to efficiently ship goods.

Mesman says the ultimate hope is that Canadian Pacific rail officials will come to the table and discuss concerns with all interest parties.
