SD Legislators Talk Equalized Ed Funding…

The Education Funding Formula Study Committee of the South Dakota legislature meets today in Pierre.

The committee has been looking at how schools are funded, and how fairly funds other than state aid are distributed.

Senator Bill Van Gerpen of Tyndall says there are some big differences from district to district…Van Gerpen says equalizing those other dollars can be difficult……

The committee will also hear from school officials who are dealing with property tax opt outs. Van Gerpen says legislators should take a closer look at those……

The committee plans at least one more meeting before the start of the 2014 legislative session.
