Nebraska Extension Specialist Says Keep Cattle Cool This Week

University of Nebraska Extension Beef Feedlot Specialist Galen Erickson says he’s heard of no cattle death losses from the heat yet this week. He says however he’s concerned about today and the rest of the week and advises watering.

Erickson says it’s important to keep the animals cool and don’t direct the water at the cattle but near them.

Erickson says not move or ship the cattle unless it’s in the middle of the night and postpone working the cattle this week.  He advises to stay the course on rations and to encourage night time feeding.
