National Milk Group Asking Conferees To Pass Dairy Security Act

National Milk Group Asking Conferees To Pass Dairy Security Act

The National Milk Producers Federation is anxious to work with Farm Bill conferees to make sure a final farm bill includes the Dairy Security Act that was included in the Senate’s farm bill.  Federation’s Chris Galen says that dairy policy is badly needed along with margin insurance and a market stabilization component.

Galen says Congress needs to be educated on the fairness factor involving both dairy policy and the nutrition title and being consistent.

He says he’s not sure when conferees will begin meeting on the farm bill but says the only real pressing deadline is the beginning of 2014 when permanent law kicks in reverting dairy policy to 1949 unworkable levels if a new farm bill isn’t in place.
