Mosquito Season Is Here

As summer heats up, the mosquito swarms will follow. And with that, the chances for West Nile disease increase once again. Deb Scholten heads up the Northeast Nebraska Public Health Department in Wayne. She says it is hard to predict how much of a problem West Nile will be this summer…

Scholten says mosquito traps are used in their district and statewide…

So far, some mosquitoes in the panhandle have tested positive for the virus. Scholten says West Nile can have serious effects…

Scholten says tips include wearing repellents that contain DEET, wear long pants and sleeves, and stay inside during the most active mosquito times.
