Minnesota Beef Referendum On The Way

The Minnesota cattle industry is looking at increasing the state beef checkoff assessment.  Minnesota Beef Industry Council Chair Mark Malecek says an industry task force determined a rate increase to $2 per head would generate an additional $500,000 to $750,000 to be used for consumer focused messaging to dispel myths and improve beef demand.

He says cattle producers 18 or older can request a ballot in the next few weeks.

Malacek says they will be holding three public hearings and a video podcast before the vote takes place during the entire month of February 2014.
