Medicaid Expansion Debate to Resume in SD

The question of expanding Medicaid coverage in South Dakota will again be up for debate in the 2014 legislature.

A task force studied the costs and benefits of the expansion and gave their report to Governor Dennis Daugaard. He later indicated he was leaning against the expansion.

Representative Bernie Hunhoff of Yankton says it will continue an old debate…The task force report said the federal government would contribute about two billion dollars for that coverage while the state would have to chip in about one hundred million dollars through 2020. Hunhoff says state residents will pay for the program no matter what the legislature decides…

Hunhoff says politics should be put aside in decisions like these……
