Former South Dakota Secretary of State Dies

Former South Dakota Secretary of State Alice Kundert  died yesterday in Mobridge. Kundert, who was 92, served as State Auditor from 1969 to 1979, and as Secretary of State from 1979 to 1987. She was a republican candidate for Governor in 1986. She also served in the State House of Representatives from 1991 to 1994. Jim Putnam of Armour was a majority whip in the House, and served with Kundert. He said he got to know her almost as soon as he moved to South Dakota…

Putnam said you knew where you stood with Alice…

Larry Gabriel of Cottonwood was majority leader when Kundert was in the House…

Gabriel said Kundert was a very good public servent…

Governor Dennis Daugaard has ordered flags lowered to half-staff on Thursday. Kunderts funeral will be held at the Mound City Community Center.
