Iowa Pork President Says TPP Is Needed

Iowa Pork President Says TPP Is Needed

Congresswoman Rosa De Lauro says approving the Trans Pacific Partnership would threaten food safety in the United States. She has concerns about an influx of seafood products from Asia and weak regulations.  Iowa Pork Producers President Greg Lear says the Connecticut Representative is off base and that inspectors will keep any contaminated or unsafe food from entering the United States.

Lear also says the TPP is important not only for American agriculture but for the nation’s economy as well.

De Lauro also says she’ll vote against giving the President Trade Promotion Authority. She says allowing the fast track option excludes Congress from having a meaningful role.  Lear disagrees and says the President needs TPA so important trade deals can advance.
