Iowa Environmental Groups Complain Governor Interfering With Regulations

Iowa Sierra Club, Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement and Environmental Integrity Project are unhappy that Iowa’s Governor and Lt Governor are interfering with EPA region 7 attempts to work with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources in enforcing the Clean Water Act. ICCI organizer David Goodner says the interference is delaying release of a DNR work plan to address farm pollution concerns.

Goodner says ICCI and the other groups are charging that Governor Branstad is lining up against citizens concerned about farm pollution.

Goodner says the interference draws into question the independence of the State Department of Environment and Natural Resources.  He says ICCI members will be taking their message to the streets Friday in Des Moines and visiting Governor Branstad and DNR Director Gipp’s offices.
