Unless Congress acts before July first, interest rates on subsidized student loans will double to six point eight percent. Julie Pier, Director of Financial Aid at the University of South Dakota says it will add to the cost of a university diploma…

Congress last summer extended the three point four percent interest rate for one year. Pier says these loans still have some good features…

Pier says students are working out details of their financing for the fall term……

Pier says they have not heard any student say they will not be coming to the University this fall because of the rate hike.
