Funding A Challenge For Universities

University of South Dakota President Jim Abbott said in his “State of the U” speech earlier this month that South Dakotans expect excellence from higher education, but are not willing to pay for it. He said people in the state have “an aversion” to taxes to fund education at all levels.

Representative Jim Bolin of Canton says there is some truth in what Abbott said…

Bolin says legislators will have to wait and see what direction Governor Dennis Daugaard sets in his budget…

While revenue appears to be trending higher, Bolin says they still need to proceed cautiously…
