Farm Bureau President Pleased TPP Talks Moving Along

Farm Bureau President Pleased TPP Talks Moving Along

U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman says the Trans Pacific Partnership talks are in their final stages and they’re approaching the finish line. He says the ambitious free trade deal is doable and is hoping they’ll complete it by the end of the year. South Dakota Farm Bureau President Scott Vanderwal says that deal is a big one for South Dakota’s producers.

Vanderwal says if they can get a successful TPP negotiated and finalized it’ll lead to lowering of trade barriers which will pay off right away and down the road.

One of the key countries involved in the TPP talks is Japan. Vanderwal says that’s a very important market for America’s farmers and ranchers.

Vanderwal says exports are critical for U.S. producers as we produce more than we can consume.
