Education Funding Formula Study Committee to Meet in Pierre

The Education Funding Formula Study Committee of the South Dakota legislature will hold its first meeting tomorrow in Pierre.

Senator Bill Van Gerpen of Tyndall says the formula, by itself is fine.

Van Gerpen says he is concerned about protecting the small school factor of the funding formula.

The small school factor gives those districts some extra funding because of their size and location.

Van Gerpen says most schools finances would be in much better condition if they had not had their state funding cut ten percent three years ago.

The committee will meet several times this summer into the fall.
