Congressman Uncertain About Getting Farm Bill Done In Time

House Ag Committee Ranking Member Collin Peterson is uncertain if a farm bill can get done before expiration of the current law.  Speaker Boehner says he’ll appoint conferees when Congress returns in September.  And Peterson believes that even with the House splitting the nutrition and commodity titles… the bills can be conferenced.

Peterson says the key will be what House Republicans do because their nutrition proposal to cut $40 billion from food aid programs will kill the bill.

He says the only reason not to pass the farm bill is for the Republicans to show how much they hate food stamps.
