Cattlemen’s Association Concerned Over Northern Beef Packers Bankruptcy

News reports out that Northern Beef Packers in Aberdeen have filed for chapter 11 bankrutpcy has the state’s cattle groups concerned and disappointed.  South Dakota Cattlemen’s Association Vice President Todd Wilkinson says they were hoping Northern Beef could have ironed out their problems and kept going to allow for marketing of South Dakota beef.

Wilkinson says because Northern has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy leaves a small glimmer of hope that some reorganization may happen and lead to purchase by another processor in the future..

Wilkinson says with Northern Beef going bankrupt leaves many questions and problems for the state’s certified beef program going forward.

Northern Beef Packing officials have been unavailable for comment.
