Candidate Leaves Race

The first candidate in the race for the Office of Commissioner of School & Public Lands says he is leaving that race. Representative Jim Bolin of Canton says he is dropping his statewide bid to concentrate instead on the common core education standards…

Bolin says it was a difficult choice…

Common core standards are being adopted by most states with a focus on fewer subjects, but with a deeper understanding. Bolin says he expects it to get a lot of discussion in the 2014 legislative session…

The only other announced candidate for the position is current deputy Lands Commissioner Ryan Brunner. Candidates will be chosen by the state political conventions next summer.
