Budget Proposal Good For Yankton Schools

South Dakota Governor Dennis Daugaard said in his budget speech to the legislature that he would support increasing state aid to education by three percent. That was up from earlier predictions of a one point six percent increase, which is the inflation rate.

Schools have been crunching the numbers, and Yankton School District Business Manager Jason Bietz said with that proposal, and a stabilizing enrollment, it will be a net gain…

 

The legislature cut school aid by ten percent in 2011 following the great recession. Bietz says they are still seeing effects of that cut…
