Animal Control Laws Discussed

The Yankton City Commission took a look at the first draft of a comprehensive update to animal control laws at their meeting Monday night. City Attorney Dave Hosmer said he took a look at similar ordinances from all the class one cities in the state…

Hosmer said many parts of the city’s ordinance have not been updated since the late 1940’s. He said they really need to take a hard look at how to define and handle dangerous animals…

City Manager Amy Nelson suggested that the commission take some time to review the thirty plus page proposal, and hold a public hearing later…

The commission decided to hold a work session on the new ordinance before their September twenty third meeting.
