Divorced, Widowed and Separated Support Group

The Divorced, Widowed and Separated Support Group will be starting again on January 12, 2015. The Divorced, Separated and Widowed group is a process designed to help those who have experienced any of these life change moments and would like some help processing those changes. The group is faith based, but non-sectarian and is open and available to anyone who has experienced one of these life changing moments. The group meets at the Riverview Reformed Church building at 1700 Burleigh Street Yankton, on Monday evenings at 7:00 PM, and will meet for nine weeks. Day of Learning

Northwestern College will celebrate its seventh Day of Learning in Community, themed “The Art of Courage” on Wednesday, February 18th. Community members are invited to attend all the events, which are free.

Keynote speaker is Steve Taylor, a musician, writer, producer and film director. Taylor will speak in Christ Chapel at 10 a-m. At 7 p-m, his latest film, “Blue Like Jazz,” based on Donald Miller’s book of the same title, will be shown in Christ Chapel. Taylor will lead a discussion of the film Thursday, February 19th, at 11 a-m in the college’s Vogel Community Room.

Wednesday afternoon, from 1 to 5 p-m, campus and community members may engage with art and artists at various locations around campus. For details about the 2015 Day of Learning in Community, visit n-w-c-iowa-dot-e-d-u-slash-d-l-c.

“The Art of Courage”

Northwestern College’s Te Paske Gallery will feature prints by Pella, Iowa, artist Eric Robinson February 2nd through the 20th. Robinson’s exhibit will take place in conjunction with the college’s annual Day of Learning in Community, which has as this year’s theme “The Art of Courage.” The printmaker will be part of the program for the daylong event, scheduled for Wednesday, February 18th.

Robinson’s show, titled “Trying to See Through Dim Eyes,” will consist of artwork produced primarily by hand carving and printing from woodcut matrices during the past five years. The Te Paske Gallery is located in Northwestern’s Korver Visual Arts Center along Highway 10 in Orange City. Gallery hours are 8 a-m to midnight Monday through Saturday and 1 p-m to midnight Sunday

Noon Forums

The Noon Forums at Mount Marty have recently been set. Each Thursday on the Yankton campus presenters give a talk on a variety of topics. The events are held over the lunch hour in the South Dining Room of Roncalli and are free and open to the public. Brown bag lunches are welcomed and visitors are also welcome to purchase food in the cafeteria.

Unplug, Unwind, Craft

The Yankton Community Library, 515 Walnut Street, is introducing a new program in 2015, “Unplug, Unwind, Craft.” This program takes place the third Thursday of each month, at 6 p.m. and is designed for adults and teens accompanied by an adult.

On Thursday, January 15, crafters have the opportunity to make spring wreaths, sugar scrubs, and an origami bookmark. There is a minimal charge to cover the cost of the materials which you must pay at the time of registration. The class is limited to twenty participants.

Doane Choir on tour
