Fifth annual South Dakota Kite Day

Wednesday, June 15th 2016 - 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm at Hilger’s Gulch

The Fifth annual South Dakota Kite Day is Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at Hilger’s Gulch in Pierre, South Dakota. The event, being held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Central Daylight Time The event is by Pierre Elks Lodge No. 1953.

Children, ages 14 and under, are encouraged to attend. The first 400 children will receive a free kite and a lesson on how to properly fly the kite.

Elk’s members will be available to hand out kites, offer assistance in putting them together and getting them to fly. Parents also are encouraged to get involved.

There is no registration fee. But children are encouraged to register by going to the Elks’ Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/PierreSDElks/

Kite Day is possible with financial support of Thrivent Financial, a grant from the National Elk’s Foundation and the Pierre Elk’s Lodge #1953.

Vacation Bible School

Go deep into understanding God’s Word at Vacation Bible School 2016, which will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., June 12-16, at Faith Lutheran Church, 10395 University Avenue in Clive, Iowa.

Each night of this year’s VBS will have a theme based on a Scripture passage; this passage will set the theme for the evening, as participants explore the Word through song, science, art, games and discussions. And guess what—the chance to explore God’s word is free!!!!

A noisy free-will offering will be collected every evening. That offering will go to update the Gathering House, which Faith uses when hosting the Family Promise program.

Registration is requested.   For only $6.00 you can order a VBS t-shirt when registering. The weblink for registration is http://bit.ly/2016_FLC_VBS.

This year’s VBS will have a wide variety of activities for young spelunkers (actually students entering pre-kindergarten through 5th grade in the fall) wishing to explore the caverns of God’s word. Our Cave Quest VBS will have such stations as Sing and Play Rock, Cave Crafts, Deep Bible quests, Spelunker sports and games and KidVid Cinema and snacks.

Pickin in the Park

Saturday, June 18th 2016 - 9:00 am - 4:00 pm

Outdoor fleamarket at the city park in Marion, SD.   Hours are 9am to 4pm.  Held rain or shine.  Free Swimming from 1pm to 6pm at the city pool also that day which is a few feet away from the market.  Food truck on site serving breakfast and lunch all day. Huge variety of vendors with over 30 attending and adding more daily!

Taste & Tour

Tickets are on sale for the fifth annual Heartland Humane Society Taste & Tour in downtown Vermillion.  This year’s Taste & tour will be on June 18th

The event showcases 8 downtown Vermillion businesses. Attendees receive VIP shopping treatment, sample food and drink, and receive the chance to win over $1,000 in raffle prizes.

Tickets are $30 each and can be purchased from a Heartland Humane Society board member, by calling 605.664.4244 or going online at www.heartlandhumanesociety.net.

The event will include stops at Nook ‘n Cranny, Sharing the Dream, Pets Paw, The Varsity, Maloney Real Estate, Farmers Insurance, Vermillion Beauty Shop and Old Lumber Company. Wine and beer tasting, appetizers, desserts, subs, chili dogs, games, shopping and music by Chase and Friends will all be included in the event.

Lewis & Clark Lake Ministry

Lewis & Clark Lake Ministry will be starting Interdenominational Church Services from Memorial Day until labor Day.  They will meet at Weigand Campground on the Neb. side each Sunday at 9 am.  there will be a service at Pierson Ranch Amphitheater, Lewis & Clark Recreational Area in Yankton, SD at 10:30 am.

Vacation Bible School

We’ve all got talent!

With that in mind, you’re invited to join us at our 2016 Vacation Bible School which will be held the week of June 20-23, 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Windsor Heights Lutheran Church, 1240 66th Street, Windsor Heights, Iowa.

In this free Vacation Bible School, children will learn how different people in the Bible used their God-given gifts—and how they can use their unique gifts to serve God and the world. At the end of the week, everyone will be able to share their gifts at the “I’ve Got Talent” Stage Show event.

Each evening begins with a community meal at 5:30 p.m. From 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. there will be music, storytelling, crafts and games.

This aspect of the camp is open to those entering pre-K through grade 6 in the fall. For adults, there will be a discussion every evening led by Pastor Chris Olkiewicz.

Windsor Heights Lutheran Church is located on 66th Street just north of University Avenue. To get there, take Interstate-235 to the 63rd Street exit (Exit 4) and go north to University. Dementia Caregiver Group
