Matching Gift Challenge Concerts

Fr. Tim Lange Offers $10,000 Matching Gift Challenge!

Fr. Tim Lange will present piano concerts for the benefit of Sacred Heart School with a $10,000.00 matching challenge.  The concerts are on Sunday, October 5, at 3 P.M. at St. Benedict Church and at 7:00 P.M. at Sacred Heart Church.  The program will consist of a variety of music, jazz and classical.

Fr. Tim was born in Crofton, grew up at Menominee, and graduated from Yankton High School in 1950. He entered Conception Seminary in Missouri studying Philosophy and Latin among other things for three years.  After that, he studied Theology for 4 years at Mt. St. Bernard Seminary in Dubuque and after Ordination in 1961 served in the Omaha Archdiocese in mostly rural parishes for 47 years before retiring in Yankton.

He began piano lessons when he was 7 years old and after Ordination to the Priesthood, received a M. Divinity degree from Creighton University and was able to continue studying music with a B. A. in Music Ed from Briar Cliff University and an M. A. in Organ Performance from USD. He has taught well over 1,000 students.  Before retiring he was Pastor at St. Peter’s Church in Stanton, NE for 22 years.

Sausage Supper

St. Stephen’s Parish in Bridgewater, SD is holding it’s 73rd annual Sausage Supper on Sunday Oct. 5th.  Serving begins at 3pm until 7pm.  The cost is $10.00 for adults and children under age 12 is $3.50.  Serving family style, whole hot sausage, potatoes & gravy, beans, cranberries, sauerkraut, buns and homemade pies.

Fresh sausage sale begins at 1:30pm.  All are cordially invited to come and enjoy a great meal.

Toddler time for 1-3 year-olds is Tuesday at 10:15 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Singing, dancing, rhymes, finger plays, and books will captivate the toddlers. Care givers are invited to join in the fun.

Center for Active Learners’ fall program

Mount Marty College’s Benedictine Institute for Leadership, Ethics and Social Justice is pleased to announce the slate of courses being offered in the Center for Active Learners’ fall program beginning Wednesday, October 8.  The Center for Active Learners serves to provide short courses for adults who wish to learn more about a variety of topics that are consistent with the liberal arts traditions of Mount Marty College.   The non-credit courses are designed for anyone who loves learning and enjoys the exchange of ideas without the pressures of homework or exams. Courses will consist of lectures and class discussions aimed at enriching the lives of individuals in the Yankton area and hands-on experiences.

The fall courses that are being offered are: “Literature of The American West,” Dr. James Sullivan; “Failing to Bother to Love: Looking Behind the Rules of Catholic Moral Theology,” Dr. Helen Ciernick; “Recipe for a Sweet Life – As Easy As 1, 2, 3,” Sr. Margo Tschetter; “Symbols in Stone,” Father Thomas Wordekemper; “Getting Along with Social Media,” Kristi Tacke; and “Gone Fishing: All You Need to Know to Get a Tug On the Line,” Erin Riibe.   Courses will meet at the Yankton Mount Marty College Campus and Sacred Heart Monastery.

Registration is currently open and can be done online or over the phone. The cost for the courses is $50 per course for CAL members or $75 for non-members.  Some courses require an additional supply fee.  Membership can be attained for $25 per year.

An informational open house for the courses will be held Sunday, October 5, 2:30-3:30 p.m. in the Cyber Café located in the lower level of the Roncalli Center.  Course instructors will be available at the event and those attending the open house will be given first opportunity to register.

Preview Days

Northwestern College will host nine Preview Days this school year to provide high school students with an introduction to the college. Preview Days are open to juniors and seniors and their parents, and are an excellent first step for students beginning their college search. The events will be held on  October 10th, October 17th, October 31st, November 10th, November 21st, December 5th, March 13th and April 24th.
The Preview Day on October 31st will be a Departmental Showcase at which students can experience a more in-depth visit with a particular academic department of their choosing.
