The road over the powerplant and spillway deck will be closed for an extended period to allow personnel to remove and clean the trash racks at the Gavins Point Powerplant. The trash racks prevent large pieces of debris from entering the turbine units. All water will be diverted through the spillway while the work is in progress. The spillway road will close at 8:00 a.m. on Monday May 14 through approximately 5:00 p.m. Friday, May 18. This closure will include overnight hours. During the closure, parks in the downstream area of Gavins Point Dam may be accessed as follows: Parks South of the Missouri River, including Nebraska Tailwaters and Nebraska’s Lewis and Clark State Recreation area (including Weigand and Burbach) Highway 81 to highway 121 West Parks North of the Missouri River including Cottonwood Day Use, Training Dike Recreation area, Pierson Ranch, Chief White Crane and South Dakota’s Lewis and Clark Recreation Area (including Yankton, Gavins Point and Midway units).
