New Nebraska Pork President Wants More Producer Involvement
Getting more producers involved in promoting their product is one of the goals of the incoming President of the Nebraska Pork Producers Association. Troy McCain of De Witt was chosen last week as leader for the organization. He says the industry has changed and those who raise hogs but don’t necessarily own them need to be brought into the association for their input.
McCain says one of the issues he intends to take to the National Pork Board meeting next week in Kansas City is support of the change to a state run animal identification program. He says without one in place, consequences could be severe for the pork industry.
McCain says premise ID signup has gone well in Nebraska with well over 80 % of pork producers registered. He says now they need to finish the job as far as animal ID goes.
