Green Building Bill

Senator Heath Mello’s bill is aimed at utilizing modern construction and energy practices to save money.

The measure would require new state buildings greater than five-thousand square feet in size, or renovation of such buildings exceeding half the value of the building to receive what’s called silver level certification through the United States Green Building Council Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design LEED, for short.

Mello’s bill points out similar building requirements are found in 45 states and over 200 communities along with 34 state governments and 14 federal agencies or departments.
