Farm Bill Debate Begins Next Week

Farm groups and lawmakers could go back to work on a new five year farm bill as early as next week. American Soybean Association President Danny Murphy says the farm bill extension essentially reset the whole process.

Murphy says they’ll have even less money to write the farm bill, but other than that he doesn’t expect the final bill to vary much from the recent proposal. He admits some changes will be needed though to get a farm bill passed in the House.

Speaker Boehner refused to schedule a vote on the farm bill even before the fiscal cliff debate as he said there weren’t enough votes in the House for passage.
