104.1 The Wolf is looking for Sand Volleyball teams for the tournament to benefit the Yankton's Womens Shelter! The tourney will be held in the Lewis & Clark Ford parking lot and teams need to be at least 5 players! Registration fee is $50.

Street Closure


Aug. 9th thru Oct. 7th 2010- Yankton, SD
Street Closure
6th Street from Maple Street to Locust Street will be closed due to construction starting the week of August 9th. This project consists of street reconstruction and storm sewer repair. This area will be closed to through traffic during construction. The tentative completion date for this project is October 7th, 2010.

Yankton Street Closure


Capital Street from 5th to 6th Streets will be closed during the week and open on the weekends during the month of September sue to construction activities.  Please use alternate routes.

Amateur Rib Cookers Needed

Historic Downtown Yankton is seeking Amateur Rib Cook-Off contestants to highlight
the 4th Rockinʼ Ribfest in downtown Yankton, SD. The Amateur Rib Cook-Off
Competition is open to everyone and follows the KCSB guidelines. Registration starts
at 9:00 am at 3rd & Douglas in downtown Yankton with a turn in time at approximately
4:30 pm. First place will be awarded with a $400 cash prize, second place with $300
and third place with $200.

Master Gardener Class-Now Thru Sept. 9th


Anyone with an interest in gardening is invited to join the Iowa State University (ISU) Extension-Woodbury County fall Master Gardener class beginning September 9. The class will continue meeting Tuesday and Thursday evenings until November 9. Class sessions will be held from 6:15 to 9:30 p.m. at Woodbury County Extension, 4301 Sergeant Road, #209, Sioux City.

Documentary Showing - "Nuclear Tipping Point"


September 7th - Brookings, SD
“Nuclear Tipping Point,” a 30-minute documentary about U.S. efforts to reduce nuclear weapons, will be shown by the South Dakota World Affairs Council at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, in Crothers Engineering Hall room 204 on the South Dakota State University Campus.
 The documentary, narrated by actor Michael Douglas and funded by Warren Buffet and Ted Turner, interviews four former U.S. government officials who helped shape America’s nuclear arsenal 20 years ago during the Cold War.

Kristin's Story


Sept. 9th 2010- Vermillion, SD
The heartbreaking portrayal of a daughter’s death from suicide will be shared with students at The University of South Dakota during the program “Kristin’s Story” at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 9. Presented by Nikki’s Fund, “Kristin’s Story” as told by her mother, Andrea Cooper, is open to the public and will be held at the Muenster University Center Ballroom on the USD campus. This event, which details Cooper’s moving account of her 20 year-old daughter Kristin’s struggle with depression following an acquaintance rape as a college student, is part of Suicide Prevention Awareness Activities at The U. Cooper began sharing Kristin’s story in 1998 with campus communities across the United States.

LEARN Program

The Osmond General Hospital will be offering the LEARN Program for Weight Management in September. The program will start on Tuesday, September 14th and the times of the class will be 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The class will meet every Tuesday for 12 Weeks in the Osmond General Hospital Cardiac Rehab Room.

Cardiac Emergencies Workshop

Rockin' RibFest

In its fourth year, Rockinʼ Ribfest has become a popular one-day event located on 3rd Street in Historic Downtown Yankton. Last yearʼs event drew a crowd of over 8,500 people to the area. Yanktonʼs “Biggest Block Party” features FREE LIVE music, a FREE Kidsʼ Playland, an Amateur Rib Cook-Off Competition and rib vendors from across the Midwest. Rockinʼ Ribfest will be held on Saturday, September 18th from 11 am - 11 pm. A free classic rock ʻn roll concert opening with Rust will kick off the event. The Mitigators, Mrs. Begley and the Boys, the Austin Beuscher Band and Go Figure will follow. Quazy will cap off the night, playing from 9 - 11 pm.

Walk A Mile In Her Shoes

The Women's Ministries of Calvary Baptist Church in Yankton, SD will be hosting a LifeWay Women's Living Proof Live Simulcast Event on September 18th from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event is free this year and will be a casual affair, including continental breakfast and a pizza lunch. There will be live worship music by Travis Cotrell. We will also hear from author and Bible teacher, Beth Moore, whose books and studies, including "Breaking Free" and "Esther; It's Tough Being a Woman," have been read by millions around the world. She is known for her ability to apply biblical scripture to everyday life.The event, utilizing live-streaming video via the Internet, brings her teaching to life as she offers insights that touch the hearts of all women, regardless of their age, race or denomination. Quilt Show

Vermillion Area quilters will display quilts and quilted art wears at the W.H. Over Museum, 1110 Radigan Street, Vermillion, SD starting September 18th thru 25 from 1 to 4pm each day. Area quilters and quilt shop representatives will demonstrate and share what's new in quilting techniques on Saturday, September 18th from 11am - 4pm. 10th Annual Heritage Fest

A Day of Music & Dance

A Day of Music & Dance will be held to help defray costs for the renovation of Bloomfield's American Legion Pavillion. Events will start at 10:00AM at the American Legion Pavillion on the Knox County Fair Grounds in Bloomfield, NE. There will be a silent auction from 11:00AM - 3:30PM and Exotic Bird Sale beginning at 10:00AM. Music will begin at 11:00AM and continue through the day until 8:00Pm. Nebraska's Outlaw Trail is Hwy 12 which stretches 231 miles between South Sioux City and Valentine, Nebraska.  Along the route, there will be 20 displays and 3 speakers.  A $10 wrist band will allow you to view all of the displays and hear all three speakers. Friday-Sunday, October 1-3, 2010 Sponsored by the non-profit Nebraska Outlaw Trail Organization.

Annual Fall Rummage Sale

Seminary Conference


Oct. 1st and 2nd 2010- Chamberlain, SD
Yankton College and Eden Theological Seminary are very pleased to announce a partnership to revitalize and sustain lay pastoral theological education in the South Dakota Conference and the Northern Plains Conference. This educational program is directed at those who are seeking licensing for pastoral ministry, those who are participating in the multiple paths to ordination process, for continuing education for ministers and other lay leaders, and for adult education for lay persons looking for spiritual and theological education beyond that which they receive in their local congregation.
The South Dakota program launches on Friday, October 1 and Saturday, October 2 at the Chamberlain United Church of Christ. The Northern Plains program is the following weekend on Friday, October 8 and Saturday, October 9 at the Bismarck United Church of Christ. Each session begins with a Clergy and Congregational Leadership Event.
Costs for the Clergy and Congregational Leadership Event are $45.00 for the first registrant from a congregation and $40.00/registrant for all other registrants from the same congregation. Registration includes dinner on Friday, coffee breaks, materials and instruction. Fees for students enrolling in the Pastoral Theology Program courses are $140.00 per course per student for credit and $100.00 per course per student for audit. Course registration includes the Leadership Event at no extra fee. Course registration also includes lunch on Saturday for course participants.

St. Wenceslaus Parish Annual Bazaar will be held on Sunday, Oct. 3rd, 2010. We will be serving chicken, dressing, dumplings, sauerkraut, mashed potatoes, gravy, vegetable and fruit salads along with kolaces, rolls, and assorted deserts. Serving from 2:30-7:30.
