Drunk man survives being crushed by recycling compactor truck

After having a few too many drinks at a Portland, Oregon bar, Justin Gilpatrick did the responsible thing, deciding not to drive home drunk.

Instead, Gilpatrick, 27, made the decision to curl up in a recycling dumpster to sleep off the booze.

When Waste Management crews emptied the contents of the dumpster into a compactor truck at around 1 a.m. on Friday, Gilpatrick was dumped in with it, KGW reports. The driver of the truck made it about a quarter mile down the road, compacting his load twice, before hearing Gilpatrick's screams.

Gilpatrick survived with minor injuries largely because the truck was relatively empty, according to the New York Daily News.

"I have not had a drink in years," he writes in a Facebook post quoted by the Daily Mail, "and the one time I do this I [sic] what happens. I will never drink again."
